Passage

Passage

This film is part of my experimental practices on the representation of time/movement in moving images. With a retrospective look at early cinema, the “Passage” represents my interest to take multiple takes from an action that takes place at different times. The main movements in the two sequences are recreated after interlacing the frames of the multiple shots.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Film is commonly understood as a real-time representation of movement. But what time? A specific continuance of discrete finite units (24 frames per second)? Then, how much time the viewer is allowed to analyze one frame from a film – one still image (one photography)?
My practice during my graduate program is mainly focused on the question of time perception. I am working on different possibilities to reflect upon the discussions around the concepts such as public time, private time, “time as flux” in moving images.
